Nov. 5th, 2008 @ 09:17 pm Now - the Taurid Meteor Shower

Nov. 5 thru 12 is the peak of the month long Taurid Meteor Shower. This year has the possiblity of being a good year as the Earth is passing through a swarm of debris. Look east around midnight and find the Pleiades. Just below that is the constellation Tarus, thus 'Taurid'.

Aug. 14th, 2008 @ 12:43 pm Eclipse Update

Due to incomplete information, I didn't know where the lunar eclipse would be visable. Now I do. Apparently, everywhere except North America will get at least a partial look at the eclipse Saturday. Again, check for local times (unless you are in North America).

Aug. 13th, 2008 @ 09:59 am What Season Is It?

Due to the monsoon season, it has been cloudy here for the past 6 weeks or so. This makes viewing anything in the sky pretty iffy. Monday evening and Tuesday morning were no different, but at 2:30 am I woke up, peeked out the window and saw a star. So I went out to have a look.

The clouds broke up just a bit overhead and to the south and east, leaving about a 75% cloud cover. Despite this, in 70 minutes I got to see 21 Pesieds. #3 was a brilliant, slow, green and gold meteor that the Em-witch got to see with me.

Considering all, it was a good evening.

Aug. 5th, 2008 @ 02:19 pm Persied!

You can start looking east-northeast in the evenings, east before dawn, and see Persied meteors all this week. The peak of the shower will be Tuesday morning. Monday night, the full moon will be messing with the view until it sets (about 2am local time). After that until dawn, it should be a great show. I'll report my sightings later.
